so, i have this theory. it’s that well, i kill conversation. it’s a theory. or rather most descriptively (spelled wrong) a hypotesis, still waiting to be a theory. it’s only here on cino, i post, no one responds. the funny thing is when i was on this other rockin’ message board called thinkwonder (rip) it happened too. not always but it worked it self out, so that when i’d post on something, no one would reply.

so, i guess this is my question, what is it that i do? is it that you don’t know who i am, so you don’t take me seriously? is it that i suck? is it that it just happens to be when a topic is dying that i post, and coincidene occurs?

i’ve been told i think about somethings to much, this maybe one of those things. in fact, i’m considering not putting this online…but i think i will for a while.

sub-question (high fidelity anyone?)
does anyone else here visit any other and participate in discussion boards besides cino? i know everyone and their brother silly simon has one, but i’m curious if there are others that you like or whatever.

i apologize for making look to me, i write in crazy circles, and i think i may be a selfish person…..

I agree about the tone of cino…to this point it’s been (obviously) shaped by those who have the time and inclination to post often, and will continue to benefit from the voices and interests of new members.

However, I don’t see how enok’s post belongs on a discussion board whose stated mission is to bring Christians together to unite, learn and serve—it’s a monologue, and a pretty self-absorbed monologue at that. How does an angsty ode to someone else’s wife contribute to the broader cino community? I’m all for exploring the medium and having fun, but perhaps something like this might fir better in an online journal or reworked into some poetry or something.

i disagree.

too narrow.

if *cino mission statement == “unite, learn, serve”
{
members = learn about other members
if km > enok
{
String enok = new String(“banana”)
km = 1
}
else
{
String enok = new String(“brown sugar”)
String km = new String(“rice”)
}
}
else
{
members = members + km – enok
}

That makes me mad. Why do people always equate creativeness with being on a drug? I think it’s a sad reflection on our culture, that anytime someone like enok has a different approach to something we generalize them as being out of their mind, being controlled by another authority- in this case marijuana. Let’s celebrate each other?s uniqueness and creativity. And I don’t mean that as a clich?, despite what the broader *cino community claim they believe: i.e. the fancy mission statement rejecting this thread whereas it should actually embraces this thread, according to what it says. Perhaps there should be a qualifier at the end: “bring Christians together to unite, learn and serve except when we’re not comfortable accepting different character.”

A rolling Vitamin A gathers no stitch in time where angels fear to tread. Blip gox gibblesnot.

Was THAT bit of gobbleygook creative? If so, YEAH ME! That took little effort.

I was kidding, Pacey. I don’t think enok is on drugs. In my thick-skinned neighborhood, such a comment is synonymous with “WHAT THE HECK?”

Argh. I give up on some of you folks.

That’s exactly my point- it has become synonymous for the actual expression.

If you think you’re able to use slang without responsibility- you’re wrong. If you think your neighbhourhood is the only with slang phrases- you’re wrong. Fuck is a pretty common word heard while I walk to my apartment in the bronx. For them, it’s synonymous with shoot. Does that mean I ought to replace my vocabulary?

What’s this “broader *cino community” everyone’s talking about? There’s some kind of strange “us against them” rhetoric going on here that doesn’t seem justified. If I can speak for the entire *cino community, I think everyone agrees it’s good to have all kinds of people offering various tones and styles to the mix. The issue, though, is whether or not such an intentionally befuddling, renegade-style post communicates to others—because communication, community-making, is the underlying purpose for discussion boards such as this .

Now I can’t speak for the entire *cino community when I say that I personally am confused by what’s going on here (I still haven’t cracked the > ^ < code that enok’s writing in). Would it be too linear and confining of me to ask enok to explain more clearly what he was getting at with the post-in-question? Or is the content of the post not the issue? If the issue is that posts on *cino are too “academic”, then this thread can be a haven for all those who prefer the common speech they’re used to hearing back home. If enok wishes to challenge linear thinking, I’m all for it. I myself am not a linear thinker—it takes me sometimes as many as two hours to write some of my posts (my posts usually start out in a jumbled mess of ideas and free-form musings, like enok’s “stream of consciousness” one), and then people still don’t know what I’m talking about. But at least I’m trying. Are we—the *cino community—suggesting by this “uck” topic that in order to combat this “tone” that “they” all use, we have to make posts that no one can understand except the post-er? (Again, I apologize if the “I love another man’s wife” post was clear to everyone else except for me. If we’re really trying to understand enok’s feelings, then I’m going to need a clearer explanation. But if this is just about fighting for the right to write “nonsense” just to spite the “educated” communicators, then enok will want to make my post yet another example of the kind of stifling “they” like to do to creative thinkers like enok)

As a compromise we could perhaps create a heading for “art talk” or “modern word arrangements” and let the stream-of-consciousness types go nuts there. I actually found enok’s posts interesting and thought-provoking, though it is a bit inconsiderate to plop absurdist posts on a perfectly rational discussion. When I wrote about naked snow angels for no good reason a while back, I decided to give it its own thread. That way people who don’t want to hear about your lusts for a married woman or my love for flailing naked in the snow don’t have to hear about it. It’s just basic niceness.

Also, it’s hard to communicate when we don’t use the same language. For example, wenn ich jetzt anfange auf Deutsch zu sprechen verstehen mich hier bestimmt nicht viele, that makes perfect sense to me and over 100 million people in the world, but not to most cino readers. So if you’re going to talk in another language, why not let us know which language it is? Because this is supposed to be communication between people, not miscommunication.
