So i was reading an earlier post about Fred Durst being the axis of evil which digressed into a discussion of good music now, and i was curious as to what others on this site listened too. I am a huge fan of music of all kinds and i am always looking for new bands and artists, so i was just wondering what was playing in everyone else’s cd players lately.
I am currently listening to The Strokes, which i just got today, and i love it!!! I have also been listening to Dylan, Ryan Adams, Dashboard, Wilco, and Counting Crows. I would assume that everyone on this board has at least heard of all those bands, but if you haven’t, check them all out, they are all incredible

I’m pretty sure someone reviewed that album in the last issue of *cino. Check the back issues.

Also gotta give another plug for Flaming Lips — Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. Listening to it straight through is an unparalleled experience. I wept. I know that sounds weird, but…

Also, Interpol — Turn On the Bright Lights is amazing. My favorite two albums right now.

I know I’m just repeating what has already been said, but:

YES. Flaming Lips are good. I looooooove their latest album, and I didn’t expect to.

Others I’ve unexpectedly enjoyed lately include NAS and Grandaddy. I didn’t like Interpol so much…reminded me too much of Coldplay (ack! blegh!). But that was only one listen, so I really should give them another shot.

And a plug for my very favoritist album of the last year:

PJ Harvey: Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea

Has anyone heard/listened to/become hooked on “Bright Eyes”? They released an album last year—Lifted, or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground. (I believe they are from Omaha, or somewhere in the Nebraska-nether-regions)

Aptly named, as it turns out, because all the songs have a raw ballad-like folksy nature to them. At times they seem overwhelmingly angst-filled, but never beyond reality or believability, and every song seems to end in a redemptive sort of way….

(how’s that for some good old calvinism)

ex. the last stanza of “False Advertising”:
In a house, by myself, I hear the ice start to melt and watch the rooftops weep for the sunlight. And I know what must change. Fuck my face. Fuck my name. They are brief and false advertisements for a soul I don’t have. Something true I have lacked and spent my whole life trying to make up for. But I found it in a song and in the people I love. They will lift me up out of darkness. Now my door stands open. I am inviting everyone in. We will drink. We will laugh until the morning comes. That is what we are going to do."

also, I really like Sigur Ros lately, but that could just be because they’re from Iceland, and because I’m learning Old English right now (which happens to be quite similar to Modern Icelandic—Mod. Ic. is about the most conservative language on the planet, i.e. it hasn’t changed in centuries; those Norse-like people really like their traditions!).

Yah, Sugar Ros is great. Their sounds are very emotive.

I would also recomend Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. They have a very unique rock and roll sound.

And if your into beats, the new Missy Elliot album has some beautiful, warm, ass-kicking beats thanks to her producer, Timbeland.
