Ten things I learned in a difficult year

  1. Sometimes you should just take the full fat peppermint mocha with whip at Starbucks.  Little things can make a day feel better.
  2. Friends are important.  Be one, stand by them and let them support you when you need them.
  3. Doctors and nurses are people, too.  If you are worried about something, talk to them and be nice to them.  You will get more information and better care.
  4. If it’s a hard day and you need to be alone to cry, go do it.  Don’t worry about the people who question your strength, your commitment to a job or even your faith.  Someday they will understand.
  5. A baby’s smile always makes things better.
  6. Pray.
  7. Read the Psalms over and over.  It doesn’t even matter if it is the same one.
  8. Music gives you words you didn’t realize you needed.
  9. Talk about what is going on.  Others will learn from you and sharing makes your load lighter.
  10. Remember to eat, drink lots of water and wash your hands.
