I tuned in to the Choice Awards to see the result of Jim Carrey’s facial surgery, then I kept watching until Kobe Bryant made his appearance. The show kept the Bryant bit for the end so they could go out on some kind of weird social justice theme. Bryant seemed buoey-ed up by the cheers of the teenage girls, and his wife seemed jealous (for good reason).

Overall, reality shows were praised and mocked, midgets were encouraged to look foolish, dresses with belts strapped above the breasts were everywhere, aggressive sideways pretend hand-gun discharge gestures continued to dominate, and Jim Carrey made fun of our obsession with youthful good looks by reading a speech with one eyeball hanging out of his socket. All and all, a very forgetable awards show that calls for a reflective look back at the most important pop culture events in my life over the past year.
