Really Good TV

I get so fed up with some TV. My recent animosity has been directed toward Extreme Makeover, the show where “ugly” people are made beautiful through plastic surgery. Ugh. But last night Extreme House Makeover was on and I absolutely loved it. A family’s house (albeit a very nice one) was going to pot because the youngest child had a struggle with leukemia and that had eaten up the finances and energies of mom and dad. So, in 7 days a construction crew of about 40 and 5-6 designers completely remodeled their house while they sent the family on a vacation to the Bahamas.
The house was completely gutted—walls were torn out, an addition was put on, serious landscaping was done. While this was done, the family was enjoying their first healthy vacation in years. The story was great, and the product was pretty impressive. I was left thinking, finally. Instead of paying the cast of friends a million each per show for mindless drivel, a show spends (I’m guessing) 1-2 million to completely renovate a house in under a week and help a family who needed it.
Great show for the time of the year. Anybody else see it?

I watched it and loved it as well. I may have even got a little choked up in the end. It was crazy. Men, women, and children were bawling and laughing and hugging. Even the annoying, conniving, controlling designer (Preston was his name, I think) got a little redemption in the end. Beauty. Does anyone know if that was a one time thing, or is it something they’re continuing?
