Last fall, a kid named Steve had moved to our town to patch things up with a dead-beat dad. It didn’t work out and he started living with my friend Tim. While staying there, Tim and Steve would spend late nights talking about God and His Son, and Steve got to spend some time with our church that meets in a small house. Steve went back to East Michigan where he was from not being sure about Christ, but he came back this past spring as His follower.

Steve moved here a week ago, because work laid him off in MI. I was driving him home the other night and he was talking about his past and I was finding out how hard he’s really had it. Then he said, “God knows all this shit is fucked up…but He loves me and He cares about me.” It made me wanna cry and my only thought and response was “and that’s the Gospel.” I’m pretty sure I’ll never hear a theologian say it that way, but it’s been awhile since I’ve heard it as beautiful as that.
