I thought this would be a pertinent discussion in relation to the current issue.

I’m not sure how I feel about this issue. Is “racial profiling” appropriate? The article above is from an Israeli perspective, which has its own issues separate from the debate here, but the concept transfers.

Do you read Israeli newspapers on a regular basis, Laryn? I sometimes read debka.com for a hardcore Zionist perspective. What’s the scoop on Haaretz?

but i do find it interesting to get news from sources outside that are closer to the situation sometimes.

I stop by Ha’aretz on a semi-regular basis. It’s a major Israeli daily, and generally tries to be “objective” but tends to have a bit of a slant leftward. It’s a pretty reputable newspaper and isn’t afraid to be quite critical of Israeli policy at times (much more so than you’re likely to find in most American papers, in fact.)

I believe Ha’aretz means something like “world” or “earth”, as in “Bereshit bara Elokim et ha’shmayim v’et ha’aretz” (In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth).
