I stop by Ha’aretz on a semi-regular basis. It’s a major Israeli daily, and generally tries to be “objective” but tends to have a bit of a slant leftward. It’s a pretty reputable newspaper and isn’t afraid to be quite critical of Israeli policy at times (much more so than you’re likely to find in most American papers, in fact.)
I believe Ha’aretz means something like “world” or “earth”, as in “Bereshit bara Elokim et ha’shmayim v’et ha’aretz” (In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth).
