This is such an interesting topic, and relevant in my life right now. I recently moved to a new area, and have been attending a number of different churches. I joined a community group at one, which is like a Bible study group. Admittedly I knew that the church was more…fundamentalist than ones I grew up in, but I was surprised at the first community group meeting. The leader emphasized that although commentaries and other books written about the Bible are useful, we do not want intellectual knowledge, but life-changing knowledge which can only come from the Bible. This really made me bristle, and I think this article touches on a lot of truth.
