What is it about The Terminal?

Hello everyone! This is officially my first post ever; quite exciting. So I thought I’d start myself out here on the wrong foot.
Okay, I’m just curious: what is it that everyone seems to love about The Terminal? I admit when I saw this movie I was very skeptical somewhat of reading Andrew Trotter’s negative review. Though honestly I don’t think I needed Trotter’s review to see how obsurd this movie is. I agree with everything Trotter said and I could add to the list. It seemed like someone said to himself one day “What if someone was stuck in an airport?” and then desperatly tried to right a plot around it. The movie sets you up at the beginning with hope of an intriguing plot but never goes anywhere.
What really surprised me was the reaction of the audience I watched this movie with. It was just a few friends of mine here at college. They were practically crying, gasping, and just totally captured by this movie. Anyone who came in during the movie and realized what we were watching would only say “Oh I love that movie. It’s so sweet.”
So my question is this: [b:b60540cc4a]why do so many people seem to love this movie?[/b:b60540cc4a] I hope I haven’t offended anyone who has made this his favorite movie. I’m really not trying to be mean, I just don’t get it. I want some honest opinions. Thanks everyone.

I was a bit disappointed too eddie. I was wondering if some of the staleness was intentional—mirroring what life would be like stuck in an airport for … was it years? But either way, it was stale, and not the artsy, profound type like “My dinner with Andre’”. I guess I was happy that he didn’t get the girl in the end. That would have made it stale and predictable.

Another eddie. who da thought? anyway, eddie 2, i liked this movie. i didnt love it but i did like it. if only for the simple reason that Tom Hanks can pretty much captivate an audience solo. i must admit i REALLY appreciate that. sure it is not of the same vien as Castaway, but he did a fine job carrying most of this movie by himself. I mean the sub plot with Zeta-Jones’ character was subpar and in my opinion not needed. but i dont think it ruined the movie. i think they co0uld have done something better.

i think another reason that people like it is the pure fact that it take place in an airport and only in the airport. people have a fascination with airports already i think and then to have an entire movie take place in one, with a seemily unbelievable situation taking place, just makes the whole thing kind of engaging.

Would i watch it again? probably not. No. but i did like it for the one time i will view it.
