Did anyone else have a problem with the ending? I felt like there seemed to be a kind of identity crisis at the end, where the movie wasn’t sure what it was trying to be.

The end was a bit ambiguous. I definitely think that the ending, for me, was enriched by reading the book first. There was a lot going on emotionally with Jimmy and his wife that was undoubtedly very hard to capture on film.
Personally, I loved the ending (but then, I like endings that don’t really tie up all the loose ends). Kevin Bacon making a gun of his fingers and pointing directly at Sean Penn—it gave me chills.

i kept thinking about whether or not this reality was real. i expected some sort of weird flashback thing to make me think that they were all still captured imagining what their lives would be like.
i did like the ending though. very interesting, almost surreal.
i didn’t understand though, how sean’s (kevin bacon) wife fit into it all, she seemed to be just inserted at the end…

What a great film. Eastwood definitely captured raw human emotion on film. The performances were spectacular!
