a) their message: I like the whole idea of portraying the search for God in that style. It was really unique. It speaks to people on many different levels too, Christian and not.

b) their spiritual value: I think that they can really speak to a Christian these days. The second one is the most powerful in that way. The idea of seeking God through the interactions of others is a great concept and Bergman expresses it so beautifully.

c) their validity as an actual trilogy: I don’t really think they are horrifically valid as a trilogy. They’re too loose. Bergman himself, in his later years, said that he could no longer consider them to be one.
