I’m interested in hearing any comments on this one, as I’m considering whether to go see it (possibly alone, as my wife is not interested).

Bubba Ho-tep
A B-movie involving Elvis (including the story of what really happened to him) and a black man who might be JFK (they died him black and put a bag of sand in the part of his brain that he lost) and an ancient Egyptian mummy? Wow.

Here’s the write-up:

“Based on the Bram Stoker Award nominee short story by acclaimed author Joe R. Lansdale, Bubba Ho-tep tells the ?true? story of what really did become of Elvis.

We find the King (Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his ?death?, then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds?

I haven’t seen it but there was sure a lot of fuss over it when it came out up here. In the theater, before the movie “Elephant,” I overheard someone say that it was the coolest movie he’d seen in years.

Bubba Ho-Tep got an extremely large nod from the indie community and a certain amount of respect from the commercial studio side. I believe it has been nominated for several art house/independent awards and possibly a golden globe.

Personally, if Bruce Campbell is in a movie I most likely will like it. There is something so intriguing about his quirky acting. The movie can be absolutely horrible, but I will still enjoy it because of his input.

On a side note…rumors have been rumbling about Evil Dead 4. Raimi and Campbell are supposedly working on a script and may begin shooting once Spidey 2 is released. Sheer cheese I am sure.

and as for evil dead 4, i sincerely hope it starts off where the alternate ending of army of darkness left us. otherwise i might only go see it 5 times.
