Vol 7, Num 22 :: 2008.12.05 — 2008.12.19
I am with you, Word,
Before the beginning of everything
Again.
I look at the earth, silenced
By falling snow by falling snow.
I am with you, Word,
At the sound of your “Come, light!”
Call.
The sky, in agony, obeys
And pours out its coloured streams.
I am with you, Word,
In the rush of winds and tides
Together.
Earth comes up out of the water
And I remember your name again.
I am with you, Word,
As you breathe your breath and man’s chest
Rises and falls.
Your image lies sleeping, sinking in bed,
I’ve never seen him fully awake.
I am with you, Word,
In the old darkness of the new
First day.
I am wiping clean your unshaven chin
Maybe for the last time.
