Lynch’s MULHOLLAND DRIVE comes out on DVD and to rent on VHS on Tuesday. The Coen’s THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE comes out on the 16th. I’d be very eager to discuss either of those. Or would Mulholland Drive be biting off more than we can chew?

As seconded nominee to choose a film, I’d like to put THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE on the list for April 16, as it was my favorite movie of last year. I don’t think I can find HAPPINESS around here, though I have seen it and it is a good choice for now.

Other movies from last year I would highly recommend, but that we can get to later:

SEXY BEAST (L-O-V-E-D it!)
AMORES PERROS
A.I.
GHOST WORLD

Let’s start with HAPPINESS… Watch it ASAP, if you’d like to participate.

Hello again, yes this is way back in response to Grant’s 4/10 query. I suppose I meant that lesser-known movies are just hard to get a hold of and it’s quite possible i just might never be able to see it thereby excluding me from conversation. However, I can’t possibly ask you all to yield to my whim and therefore I shan’t. When possible I shall join in discussion, perhaps the people on CINO in this area should have some kind of “Man who wasn’t there” popcorn party. Any takers?

Count Grant and me in on a Chicago-area MWWT screening…when and where? (This weekend?)

Road to Perdition? Its worth the money to see it in the theater.

I really enjoyed this film. Its great to see a film that communicates so well visually. The lighting was incredibly evocative. There is a scene with gunfire, rain, and music that is a rich experience in itself.

yeah, i’d like to see that. i was just reading about how they filmed part of it in pullman (specifically the florence hotel), a southside chicago neighborhood near where my parents grew up. and, of course, home to the famed pullman railroad cars.

oh, yeah, and the movie looks interesting, too.

Has anyone seen “Minority Report”? I predict that the “precog” will be the next big thing this Christmas. Who wouldn’t want a slippery prophetess who foretells the future? As I see it, a precog could replace the classic rubber ducky this year, becoming the new number 1 choice for fun in the tub!

And when you pull a string on her back, she either screams horrifically or monotones “Murrrrderrrrrrrrr…”. Whee! You are a marketing genius.

I liked Minority Report. The one thing I can’t get by (but could suspend my disbelief of enough to enjoy the movie) is the idea that one can translate brainwaves or thoughts into actual images that you can look at on a screen. That is impossible and will never never never happen.

I liked Minority Report. Except for some of the cheesy spielberg moments, I thought it was a pretty good movie. They could have done so much more, but I suppose what we got is about all we can expect from Hollywood. I would have really liked to see some more development of the idea of the precog “religion”.
