Vol 9, Num 7 :: 2010.04.02 — 2010.04.15
He spoke magnificence and
the land rumbled,
From beneath time
the mountain untucked her chin and pointed it upward
in praise that never had a beginning and would always be
Then, It whispered
‘Greed’
and blasted her mountain peak
and dug out her insides and left them black and empty
He spoke splendor and
the waters bifurcated
into a living glass of blue and green
that swelled below and curved above
Then, It scoffed
‘Power’
and a black shadow snaked into the glass above
cracking it
and black blood entered the vein of glass below
sickening its life
He spoke beauty and
the earth curved and rippled
a blanket being rolled out into patchwork hills and dales
of many hues
and fields of heather and moss
and wheat
It licked his lips
‘Gluttony’
and swept away all colors for one
and squeezed out unnatural sweetness and poured it back onto the land
so it grew fat and rotted
He spoke goodness
and they were formed from his
heart
beings of light and bone and stars and skin
they walked and ate and wondered
He spoke purity
and they loved each other
in splendor and magnificence
He spoke holiness
and the woman was naked
and she was beautiful
and she saw the man and he saw her
and the man praised and praised
He spoke holiness and beauty
It sneered
‘Vanity’ and ‘Deceit’
and the woman saw her body
and hated it
He ached for her hatred
He spoke silence outside of time
And then he breathed all life back into himself
And
He sang himself into flesh
He sang life into the woman’s womb
He cupped her face and gave it light
She saw holiness inside her.
She loved her body for the child
She saw beauty again
And she sang.
